Stiffelio by Giuseppe Verdi was premiered at Moscow's New Opera Theatre. In the story, a clergyman in a Protestant sect is cheated on by his wife. It forces the protagonist to rethink his relationship with the outside world and even with the Almighty Himself. The episodes with the active actions of the characters deserve particular attention: attempts at strangulation, falls. Emotional tension builds up gradually.
